Judge delays start date of Macondo damages case

New York—The start date for the first of the consolidated federal Macondo damages trials has been delayed to February 25 from January 14, 2013, by the judge overseeing the litigation. Citing conflicts with both the traditional Mardi Gras celebrations, and also college and professional football events, Judge Carl Barbier said October 26 that he made the decision in consultation with counsel on both sides. The trial will address the limitations of liability for the 2010 blowout and fire at BP’s Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 people.
