Shell picks Pittsburgh site for ethane cracker

Washington—Shell Chemical broke the ten-sion among Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsyl-vania’s corporate and political leaders March15 by announcing it has signed an option fora site near Pittsburgh to build a multi-billion-dollar ethane cracker in the heart of the Mar-cellus Shale.Shell optioned the land in Beaver County,Pennsylvania, from zinc manufacturer Horseh-ead Holding Corporation to evaluate the sitefor a cracker. The site is located at Monacoabout 27 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
