UK increases recoverable oil and gas reserves estimate

London—The UK’s proven and probable oil and gas reserves grew slightly last year according to fresh government figures, as new exploration boosted estimates of proven oil, offsetting lower estimates for recoverable gas reserves. The UK’s total recoverable oil reserves on a proven and probable basis rose to 5.906 billion barrels at the end of 2011, up from 5.629 billion barrels a year earlier, according to new estimates published by the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) September 4.
