New York—Environmentalists aim to launch a national effort to transfer decision-making of TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline to the US Environmental Protection Agency and away from the Army Corps of Engineers, calling the Corps’ environmental record “abysmal.” The “EPA can push back at the Army Corps of Engineers...there just needs to be the political will to do that,” Kim Huynh of environmental group Friends of the Earth said May 31 in a phone interview. “The EPA really needs to step in here, even if the President has given his blessing” for the pipeline.
