Tokyo—Japan’s largest upstream company Inpex May 10 posted a record net profit of Yen 194 billion ($2.43 billion) for fiscal 2011- 12 (April-March), up 50.7% from a year ago, mainly due to higher oil and gas prices. Inpex last posted a record net profit in 2007-08 at Yen 173.2 billion. Operating income for fiscal 2011-12 was Yen 709.4 billion, up 33.9% from a year earlier, while revenue jumped 25.8% year on year to Yen 1.187 trillion, the company said.
