US estimate of proven reserves soars to record high

Washington—Proven reserves of US oil and natural gas jumped in 2010 to the largest volumes recorded in more than 30 years, a new report from the Energy Information Administration shows. Reserves of crude, including lease condensate, increased by 2.9 billion barrels, or 12.8%, in 2010 to 25.2 billion barrels, EIA Administrator Adam Sieminski wrote in prepared testimony scheduled to be delivered August 2 to a House committee.
