Kuwait selects Total as third partner for China refinery

Dubai-Kuwaiti Oil Minister Mohammad al- Busairi was quoted January 24 as saying that French oil major Total had been selected as the third partner to replace Shell in a $9 billion joint venture with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, or Sinopec, to build an oil refinery and petrochemicals facility in the southern province of Guangdong. Local newspaper al-Jarida quoted the min- ister as saying that state-owned Kuwait Petro- leum Corporation had reached an agreement with Total to take a stake in the refinery, now expected to be completed in 2014 or 2015.
