Washington-The US Environmental Protec- tion Agency plans to create a "renewable gasoline" category within the Renewable Fuel Standard and to add several new feedstocks that qualify for meeting the mandate. The definitions will go into effect in early March unless the agency receives negative comments about the changes within 30 days, EPA said in a direct final rule scheduled to run January 5 in the Federal Register. Qualifying as new feedstocks are camelina oil, energy cane, giant reed and napiergrass cellulosic biomass. EPA sees producers using camelina oil seeds to make naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas and renew- able diesel, including jet fuel and heating oil. The grasses could be used to make naphtha, ethanol and renewable diesel, including jet fuel and heating oil.
