Hearings to begin on TransCanada mainline

Houston—Canada’s National Energy Board will begin a series of hearings June 4 that could determine the fate of TransCanada’s mainline, a major route across Canada that has seen natural gas volumes plummet in recent years. Facing the declining throughput, Trans- Canada has in the past raised tolls on its system, leading to a years-long battle with shippers who have balked at the rising cost amid declining gas prices and more gas-ongas competition from emerging basins.
