Vancouver—Companies searching for commer-cial deposits of shale gas in the Central Mari-times region of Canada have received conflict-ing signals this week from regulators over theuse of hydraulic fracturing, but the CanadianAssociation of Petroleum Producers (CAPP)said April 19 it would prefer to know exactlywhere the provincial governments stand.The Nova Scotia government announcedit was extending by another two years to sum-mer 2014 a moratorium on fracking, while theNew Brunswick government granted a five-yearlicense to Calgary-based Windsor Energy onApril 18 to explore and drill for gas on itsWindsor Block lease.
