China ethylene producers eye alternatives to naphtha

Singapore—Demand for naphtha from China’s ethylene sector is expected to continue growing over the next three years but its proportion in the overall feedstock mix will slip, according to an official from state-run oil company Sinopec. Naphtha is primarily used for ethylene production in China. “It currently accounts for 70% of the total feedstock used in ethylene plants,” Shu Zhaoxia, chief analyst for chemicals at state-owned refiner Sinopec, said October 24 at the Downstream Asia conference in Singapore.
