Indian refiner BPCL profit drops 50% to $41.3 million

Mumbai-Indian refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited February 9 reported a 50.6% fall in net profit for the October-December quarter to Rupees 1.87 billion ($41.3 million) from Rupees 3.79 billion a year earlier. Gross refining margins at its plants for the nine months of the current financial year ending in March 2011 improved to $3.63/b from $2.70/b a year ago. The average gross margin in the company's fiscal third quarter at the Mumbai refinery was $4.39/b and at the Kochi refinery was $4.95. That was up from the prior quarter's $3.28/b at Mumbai and $2.09/b at Kochi.
