Houston—The US Environmental Protection Agency on December 8 found that groundwater contamination in a tiny western Wyoming town “contains compounds likely associated with gas production practices, including hydraulic fracturing.” The statement, which caps a three-year investigation into tainted water in Pavillion, Wyoming, in the Wind River Basin, marks the first time a federal agency has associated water contamination with fracking.
