Greenland limits new exploration round to oil majors

London—Greenland has launched a new exploration round for areas off the northeast coast of the country, but has limited the potential bidders to members of the so-called Kanumas Group, consisting of ExxonMobil, Statoil, BP, Japan’s Jogmec, Chevron and Shell. Greenland is thought to have huge oil and gas potential, though to date no commercial finds have been made. The UK’s Cairn Energy last month completed an ambitious $600 million drilling campaign in the Arctic waters off Greenland without a commercially viable find.
