Dubai-Yemen's acting oil minister, Amir al-Aydarous, said May 7 the country is on the verge of an economic catastrophe due to ongoing political unrest and frequent bomb attacks against oil pipelines. The warning came as Canada's Nexen, th operator of the 70,000 b/d Masila field, said May 9 production at the field had been shut i and operations suspended because of a strik by members of the Masila Labor Union. Nexen said it is engaged with the union and government agencies to reach an agreement.
