Indian E&P major ONGC earns $1.54 billion

Mumbai-India's state-owned upstream player Oil and Natural Gas Corporation said January 28 its October-December 2010 net profit surged 132% to Rupees 70.83 billion ($1.54 billion) from Rupees 30.54 billion in the same quarter of 2009. While higher crude oil prices helped the company earn better profits, other operating income of Rupees 22.18 billion in the December 2010 quarter, compared with Rupees 2.08 billion in the year-earlier quarter, helped drive ONGC's net profit sharply higher.
