TransCanada weighs truncating Keystone XL project

New York-Facing delays in winning US government approvals for its Keystone XL pipeline project, TransCanada has said it could break up the pipeline project from its Hardisty, Alberta, origin to its eventual Gulf Coast destination so the company can forge ahead with its plans. Asked on an analysts' call February 15 if TransCanada would consider "decoupling" the XL project, TransCanada's Alex Pourbaix, president of energy and oil pipelines, said "that's obviously something we would consider," adding a moment later that "in the incredibly unlikely event that we didn't receive the (US government) permit, we would consider decoupling it."
