Marathon looks to Eagle ford, spuds its first well

New York-Marathon Oil is bullish on the Eagle Ford and the Bakken shales but will likely stay in a holding pattern in Iraq until Kurdistan provides more contract details, Marathon executives said on a first-quarter earnings call with analysts May 3. The company in the last quarter spud its first well in the south Texas Eagle Ford, where it aims to build up its acreage position. Marathon holds about 29,000 acres in the Eagle Ford Shale, with rights to take up an additional 61,000 acres, the company said in a statement.
