Calgary-A partial cut in power supplies and the shutdown of the Rainbow oil pipeline, both directly due to the wildfires that broke out over the weekend in the Slave Lake area, are taking a toll on oil and gas production in north-central Alberta. "There are presently 100 wildfires in Alberta, 23 of which are out of control," the government of the Canadian province said in an update May 17. "These active wildfires have burnt nearly 105,000 hectares of land and multiple forest fires north of Fort McMurray have required the evacuation of about 2,000 oil workers on Monday. We have deployed nearly 1,000 firefighters, 124 helicopters, 20 air tankers and scores of heavy ground-based machines."
