US gives loan guarantees to biofuel projects

Washington-The US Department of Agriculture January 20 said it had awarded $405 million in loan guarantees to cellulosic biofuel projects in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida that are projected to produce about 73 million gal/year of advanced biofuels. In a separate announcement, the Agriculture Department said it had made payments to existing advanced biofuel facilities to support their ongoing production and also said it would award $1.6 million in grants to fund 68 feasibility studies for advanced biofuel production in various locations around the country.
