London-The UK government January 17 effectively rejected calls for a moratorium on shale gas development, with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) saying it backed properly carried-out shale gas work The comments came in response to a report published earlier January 17 that called for a moratorium lasting at least two years because of possible contamination of water supplies from the chemical-containing liquids used to fracture shale rocks and stim ulate gas flows.
