London-UAE-headquartered Dragon Oil has made its first upstream move outside of Turkmenistan by agreeing to take a 55% stake and potential operatorship of the Bargou exploration block offshore Tunisia from Australia's Cooper Energy, Dragon said October 10. Dragon to date has focused its operations on the Cheleken block in the Caspian Sea offshore Turkmenistan, but has said one of its three strategic focuses is to expand the business abroad. For the first time, Dragon said the focus would be on Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East and "selectively" Southeast Asia.
