Kuwait's al-Zour refinery to start in 2016

Abu Dhabi-Kuwait's state-owned refiner KNPC expects approval soon from the state Supreme Petroleum Council to proceed with the 615,000 b/d al-Zour oil refinery, which is slated to be operational in 2016, a KNPC official said May 9. The project has been in the planning sta for several years but has failed to win parliamentary approval, partly because of cost con siderations and partly because of objections by some politicians over the way in which initial engineering contracts were awarded.
