Chevron snags deepwater Gulf permit for new reservoir

Washington-Chevron secured March 24 the fifth deepwater drilling permit issued for the Gulf of Mexico since US regulators lifted the moratorium last October, and the first for an unproven reservoir. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement said Chevron can resume work at a site about 215 miles south of Lafayette, Louisiana. It started initial drill- ing in March 2010 but suspended work three months later at the height of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
