Dubai—Afren has acquired stakes in twocontiguous production sharing blocks in Iraq’sKurdistan province for a total of $558.25 mil-lion in what is the UK-listed company’s firstforay outside Africa. Afren said in a statement late July 27that it had acquired a 60% participatinginterest in the Barda Rash production shar-ing contract from Komet Group, a Moldova-based company, and a 20% interest in theAin Sinfi contract from the Kurdistan Region-al Government.
