Canada’s Precision Drilling sets plan to upgrade fleet

Vancouver—Precision Drilling, Canada’s largest land contractor, said December 6 it will take a pre-tax charge of up to C$120 million ($119 million) to decommission 36 lower-tier drilling and 13 service rigs, while boosting its 2012 capital spending by 58% from 2011, including work on seven new purpose-built rigs. The forecast expenditures of C$1.14 billion for next year include some carryover from this year’s budget that has been scaled back by about 16% to C$740 million, the company said.
