London-Shell has shut in some oil production in Nigeria after a fire on the Okordia-Rum uekpe pipeline in Bayelsa State, the company said November 9. Shell, which did not say how much production has been shut in, said it has already mobilized a fire-fighting team to the site and was planning to start an investigation. Shell has not yet announced the cause of the fire, but in recent months Nigeria has been hit by an increase in sabotage of oil pipelines by local rebel groups siphoning oil.
