Ensco contracts deepwater rig to Petrobras

Houston-A subsidiary of contract driller Ensco said February 2 it has signed a 950-day drilling contract with Brazil's state-controlled Petro-bras for its Ensco 7500 semisubmersible rig, which gains the driller a foothold in the deep waters of that large and booming market. The contract, at a rate of $320,000/d for a rig that can work in water depths of 8,000 feet, should begin in the third quarter, Ensco said in a statement. The rig is currently in a Singapore shipyard undergoing upgrades.
