Copenhagen-Statoil is to enter the North American Bakken and Three Forks tight oil plays with the $4.4 billion acquisition of US independent Brigham Exploration, the companies said October 17, a deal set to be a cornerstone of future development in the US for the Norwegian company. With the deal at a 20% premium to Brigham's October 14 closing price of $30.36/share, Brigham stock erupted after the announcement, rising 21% to close at $36.75, just below the 52-week high of $37.87 and well above the low of $19.43.
