US should let states opt out of ethanol rule: senator

Washington-US Senator James Inhofe on April 13 proposed allowing states opt out of a portion of the national Renewable Fuel Stan- dard to allow retailers to sell gasoline that has not been mixed with corn-based ethanol. The Oklahoma Republican said he is work- ing on legislation that would allow states to escape the provision if their legislatures and governors agree. While it would lower the nation- al goal for corn ethanol consumption, he said the proposal would not change the targets for use of cellulosic and other advanced biofuels.
