Spain raises biodiesel quota for diesel on crude spike

London-The Spanish government is increasing the proportion of biodiesel used in common diesel to a minimum of 7%, from the previous level of 5.8%, in an attempt to reduce dependence on oil as crude prices soar. The increase in the biofuel blending mandate came as part of package announced by Deputy Prime Minister Alfredo Perez Rubal-caba late February 25, which also included cutting the speed limit on motorways to 110 km per hour from 120 km/h and reducing short- and medium-distance rail fares by up to 5%. All of the measures will come into effect on March 7.
