Pakistan rations gas supplies on increasing shortfall

Karachi—The Pakistan government has reached an agreement with major natural gas consumers for a rationing plan as the country’s gas shortfall surges to 1.6 Bcf/d this winter, 33% higher than during the same period last year, an official with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said December 19. The surge has forced the government to negotiate a gas load management plan to ration gas to industries, fertilizer plants and retail compressed natural gas pumps, the official said.
