Astana, Kazakhstan-Kazakhstan appointed October 5 a tough young technocrat to manage the state-owned giant oil and gas company KazMunaiGaz in a move said to reflect the government's wish to have a tougher man in charge of negotiations with foreign energy companies. Bolat Akchulakov replaced Kairgeldy Kabyldin as chairman of KazMunaiGaz' management board just a day after Kabyldin addressed Kazakhstan's major Kazenergy Forum in Astana, where he updated delegates on the status of its three major projects (ON 10/5).
