US grants first deepwater Gulf permit since Macondo

Washington-Federal regulators on February 28 announced the approval of the first deepwater drilling permit in the Gulf of Mexico since last year's BP Macondo blowout and spill. The permit was the first issued since regulators imposed tough new drilling safety requirements on the industry in the wake of Macondo, which killed 11 workers and resulted in the worst marine oil spill in US history.
