UK crude output slumps to lowest recorded level

London-UK crude oil production fell to its lowest-ever level in August as output from the North Sea continued its long-term decline, the Department of Energy and Climate Change said September 29. Crude output averaged just 737,000 b/d in August, down 19% from July, data from DECC showed. The decline was due to production issues at the 200,000 b/d Buzzard field-the UK North Sea's largest-and the closure of the Forties pipeline in the first week of August to remove an unexploded mine from World War II. The Forties pipeline carries around 30% of the UK's crude.
