US to re-examine policy on oil shale leasing

Washington-The US will reconsider two Bush-era decisions opening up 2 million acres of Western lands to oil shale development, the Interior Department said February 15. The reconsideration is part of a settlement of two lawsuits brought by environmental groups after the Bush administration opened areas of Utah, Wyoming and Colorado to oil shale leasing and approved regulations that set what the plaintiffs said were "bargain basement royalty rates" for any future production.
