US CFTC proposes swap-dealer definitions

Washington-The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission December 1 unveiled its long-awaited proposed definitions of swap dealers and major swap participants, but the impact on the energy industry may remain unclear for months. The proposals, for example, do not address how the definition of a swap dealer will be applied in the physical commodity mar- kets or how it will apply to the generation or transmission of electricity, two areas on which the proposal seeks public comment.
