Philippines to allow import of ethanol next year

Manila-The Philippine Department of Energy plans to allow the import of ethanol in 2011 to make up for the shortage of local supplies, according to DOE Secretary Jose Rene Almendras. The import permit would be temporary and designed to help the country meet its 10% blending mandate for gasoline that takes effect February 2011, Almendras said at last week’s ASEAN energy ministers meeting in Vietnam, Philippines media reported.
