Bangladesh eyes immediate LNG imports on gas crisis

Dhaka, Bangladesh-Bangladesh is eyeing immediate LNG imports to try to address the acute gas shortage the country is facing, a senior government official said January 12. Since Bangladesh does not yet have an LNG import terminal, it is in talks with sellers to supply the gas via special tankers known as floating, storage, regasification units or FSRUs, said Mohammad Mohsin, Bangladesh's energy secretary. Cairn Energy's existing platform and pipeline network at its Sangu field in the Bay of Bengal will be used to bring the regasified LNG onshore, Mohsin added.
