CNOOC, Statoil take big stakes in US shale

Houston-Foreign investors are stepping up their presence in the liquids-rich Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas, with China’s CNOOC and Norway’s Statoil announcing separate deals October 11 to pony up a total of nearly $3.5 billion to gain footholds in the burgeoning play. The deals would be the fourth and fifth, respectively, done in the Eagle Ford this year alone, bringing total investments there to nearly $10.2 billion.
