UK energy ministry gives Gateway gas storage project green light

London-The UK energy ministry has licensed the Gateway offshore natural gas storage project, the ministry said February 15, a welcome boost for a sector that has seen many projects delayed or canceled.The Gateway project in the east Irish Sea will see the creation of 20 salt caverns that will hold a total 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas. The chairman of Gateway Storage, George Grant, said the support and encouragement of the UK authorities to bring the project forward through the new consenting process had been invaluable, as had been the Crown Estate's agreement of the offshore site license.
