Lagos-The security situation in Nigeria worsened January 12 when four oil workers-three Britons and one Colombian-working for a Shell contractor were kidnapped by gunmen in Nigeria's southern Rivers state. It was the first major kidnapping in Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta region since the government's amnesty deal with militants, which ended October 4, brought relative peace to the restive region.
