Vitol, Helios in talks to buy Shell Africa downstream

Cape Town-Oil trader Vitol and the Africafocused private investment group Helios Investment Partners are in exclusive negotiations to buy Shell’s downstream assets in 19 African countries, Shell’s South African unit said July 21. Under the terms of the proposed deal, which would see the Shell brand and products remain in each country, Vitol and Helios would become the majority shareholders in the businesses, with Shell retaining a shareholding.
