UK’s Melrose expects first Romanian gas at end-2012

London-UK-based Melrose Resources expects the first natural gas from the Ana and Doina fields offshore Romania at the end of 2012, the company said August 17. Melrose is set to assume operatorship of the fields from Canada’s Sterling Resources once the UK company’s farm-in to the Midia and Pelican blocks is completed, it said. In December 2008, Melrose agreed to take a 32.5% stake in the Midia and Pelican concessions for $12 million, but the deal has still to be finalized. Midia contains the undeveloped Ana and Doina gas fields, which Melrose estimates to contain gross combined probable reserves of 345 Bcf of gas.
