Washington—The National Wildlife Federation has called for an end to government subsidies for ethanol and biodiesel production as part of a broad plan to speed the transition to next-generation biomass fuels. The federation on March 30 unveiled what it calls a “vision for sustainable biomass energy.” The report reinforces environmental claims that using food for fuel contributes to the release of greenhouse gasses and urges the adoption of policies that favor cellulosic alternatives such as switchgrass and algae.
