Swiss refiner Petroplus buoyed by higher Q2 margins

London-Switzerland-based refiner Petroplus August 4 reported a jump in underlying earnings for the second quarter of 2010 as higher margins helped offset a fall in throughput at its refineries. Petroplus said its clean net income for the quarter was $35 million, up from $10 million in the same period of 2009. Total throughput at the company’s six refineries in the UK, Belgium, Germany, France and Switzerland averaged 557,900 b/d during the quarter, down from 591,200 b/d in the second quarter of 2009.
