Chevron's Australian gas find may boost Gorgon project

Sydney-US major Chevron's latest gas discovery in Western Australia's offshore Carnarvon Basin could support its longterm growth plans for the A$43 billion ($38.7 billion) Gorgon LNG project, the company said in a statement January 27. The first phase of the Gorgon project will include three liquefaction trains, each producing 5 million mt/year of LNG, but Chevron has said it planned to build another two trains in the long term. The company began construction work at Gorgon in December 2009 and is targeting first gas in 2014 (ON 12/2/09).
