Corneal cross-linking combined with intrastromal corneal ring implantation for progressive keratoconus

To the Editor: Henriquez et al have recently published an interesting study evaluating the clinical outcomes after sequential corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) and intrastromal corneal ring (ICR) implantation in patients with keratoco-nus (KC). The authors reported statistically significant reduction of the mean spherical equivalent and the mean maximum and minimum keratometry values (Kmax and Kmin, respectively) 6 months after ICR implantation, whereas the mean uncorrected visual acuity and the mean best-corrected visual acuity improved significantly. No complications were observed. Based on these results, the authors suggest that ICR implantation after CXL represents a safe and efficacious treatment option for managing selected patients with progressive KC.
