Tokyo-The Japanese government will “respond appropriately” after verifying China's activities with regard to a disputed gas field in the East China Sea, Japan's newly appointed de-facto energy minister said September 22. Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akihiro Ohata told a group of reporters in an interview that Japan intends to confirm all of the facts about China's apparent unilateral activity at the field-for which the two countries have a joint development agreement- before considering any action.
