Tale of two potential NYC Superfund sites

New York-In a curious twist, New York City has moved to support a Superfund designation at Newtown Creek, a city water body, while upholding its earlier opposition to a Superfund cleanup at the nearby Gowanus Canal. A Superfund cleanup of the creek could further involve majors ExxonMobil, BP and a Chevron entity. The three, and two other companies, are now engaged on a "work plan" for Newtown Creek.
